Body Language: Representing the Female Form at Royal Gallery. Body Language, the gallery's upcoming exhibit, honors the importance of the female form in art. Throughout the history of art, the female form has been a significant, revealing and even controversial subject. This exhibit showcases women as the focus of art in many different ways and with many interpretations. Royal Gallery is proud to feature selected works from Owise Sanajlih, a Jordanian painter expressing the provocative beauty of his draped nudes; Rawan Rihani, whose unique multimedia works display the female form with modern sensitivity and strong romanticism; Mary Jane Q. Cross, a figurative artist invoking the preciosity of everyday life through her portraits of women; Romard, whose major influences of Picasso, Gorky, and Miro are ever-present in his stylistically varied works; and Frank Piccirillo, a local painter who balances simplistic vivid colors with the focus of the woman's form. Combined, the works of these versatile artists represent the female form in all of its vitality, splendor, and strength as the artists investigate the language of the female body. ECAS Theater, in association with Trinity Repertory Company, will present Federico Garcia Lorca’s Doña Rosita the Spinster, in Trinity Rep’s Dowling Theater. This classic play of love, age and sadness will presented for two performances, June 21st at 7:30 p.m. and June 22nd at 3 p.m. This is the first-ever performance of a Spanish-language theater company at Trinity Rep.
Doña Rosita is a young woman who's lover is sent away. Se promises to wait for him, and wait she does. It is only years later when the lover still does not return, that Rosita starts to doubt her promise, and worries that she’s wasted her life, now being too old to find another love. While her uncle tends the roses that are symbolic of her life, the play introduces a series of characters that give the drama added depth and color. The play spans three periods of Spanish history, the bourgeois times of the 1880s, the social modernization of Spain in the early 1900s and the beginning of World War I. The performances at Trinity Rep will be performed entirely in Spanish
by the ECAS actors, under the direction of ECAS Artistic Director Francis Parra. The show will feature a special guest appearance by Carlos Alfredo Fatule, a renowned contemporary stage and film actor from the Dominican Republic. Performances are scheduled for Saturday, June 21st at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 22nd at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. For tickets visit www.ecastheater.org or call (401) 270-6565.

An Intimate Tour: Integrating the Past and Present along the Westport River on Friday, June 27, 5: 00 – 7:00 p.m.. Beginning in 2000, and over a three year period, landscape architect Douglas Reed and William Makris acquired property along the east branch of the Westport River, some 42 acres containing meadow, lowland woods and wetlands, to develop a sanctuary for home life. This process gave rise to discoveries about the site’s destructive history, lessons of careful landscape editing, and the challenges of seamlessly integrating the organic landscape with the built environment. Doug will join us to discuss his battle with rampant invasive plants, the collaboration between designers and architects, and to explain how a landscape once used as a sand and gravel pit was transformed into a place of solace and beauty. Seize this rare opportunity to hear this site’s complex story, experience stunning residential architecture, and ramble through a landscape of stone walls, hedgerows, boulder-strewn woods, and sweeping vistas of river and sky. Blithewold, 101 Ferry Road, Bristol, RI 02809. 401-253-2707 for more information.
